  • Donate in memory of a loved one. These notations will be acknowledged in the event programs and in our Annual Report. We will notify the family a donation was made “In Memory” of their loved one and will send an acknowledgement for the donation to the donor.

FROM ONE HEART TO ANOTHER

Volunteer Judy shares her heart and talent with preemie moms across Colorado.

Newborn Hope Past President, Lindsay Pechek and Newborn Hope Volunteer, Judy Case work together to deliver hearts statewide.

Research shows that the sense of smell is the first sense to develop around 22 weeks gestation and becomes mature by 29 weeks gestation…

Nothing can replace a mother’s special and unique scent, and even our smallest preemies can sense it. Volunteer Judy Case, together with Newborn Hope, created these special soft hearts to deliver to NICUs statewide so that baby can feel connected with mom (or dad, or caregiver!) while in the NICU. Hearts are placed with mom for a short time and then with baby to create an awareness of mom’s unique scent. Newborn Hope is so grateful for Judy’s heart to serve our preemies as a volunteer sewing our inaugural 750 hearts for distribution. Judy’s passion for quilting has spanned over four decades, and it continues to be a work of ‘heart.’ Now a quilting instructor and certified quilting judge, Judy enjoys using her talents to comfort those in a trying time with lap blankets for cancer patients, isolet covers for premature babies in the NICU, and now Scent Hearts for premature babies to connect with their mothers and caregivers.

Hearts can be placed with baby as a reminder of mom’s unique scent, keeping in accordance with Safe Sleep guidelines. Hearts can also provide protection from the necessary but bright lights in the NICU.
Collectively, more than 2000 hearts have been distributed to NICUs statewide.
To request hearts for a family member, friend or NICU please contact director@newbornhope.org.

Newborn Hope Resting Gowns

At NBH we strive to give every baby and premature baby a healthier start, but there are times when circumstances are out of anyone’s control and some babies do not make it home from the NICU. Irene Sutherland is a friend of NBH and donates her time to make beautiful resting gowns for these babies from donated wedding dresses. These gowns are often used as Baptismal Gowns or Final Resting Gowns and are available at the hospitals, as there is often not time to prepare. If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in receiving one of Irene’s beautiful gowns, or repurposing a wedding gown for this cause, you may always reach us by contacting our Executive Director at director@newbornhope.org.
